We Are Considering a Model And
We Need Your Thoughts
We are considering two potential MCRR depots to be offered as our next NYCSHS structure model and we need your help in deciding which one to offer.
The first kit that we are proposing would be a MCRR station produced in HO-scale by The N-Scale Architect who produced our NYC LS&MS Lines West brick and stone depot kit a couple of years ago. It will be a wood laser cut kit. The kits would be un-assembled and would be painted by the modeler.
The kit will be based on the depot that still exists at West Branch, Michigan on Michigan Central’s Bay City to Mackinaw City line now operated by the Lake States Railway. The prototype depot is a combination depot with separate sections for passenger waiting room, operator’s office complete with bay window and baggage section.
The depot is constructed of wood and features board and baton siding with a gabled roof and is trimmed with Victorian era accents.
Other Michigan Central depots of the same style were located at Decatur, Eden, Francisco, Irving, Jones, Roscommon, Sherwood, Vandalia and West Branch, Michigan; Chrisman and South Bend, Indiana; as well as Buxton, Chippawa, LaSallette, Mull, Oil City, Stevensville and Victoria Park, Ontario Canada.
These depots were located along the Buffalo to Chicago via Detroit Mainline as well as the Fort Erie, Grand Rapids, Mackinaw, Michigan Air Line, Niagara, Oil City, Saginaw and St Joseph Branches.

The second option would be this MCRR station produced in HO-scale by The N-Scale Architect who produced our NYC LS&MS Lines West brick and stone depot kit a couple of years ago. It will be a wood laser cut kit. The kits would be un-assembled and would be built and painted by the modeler.
The kit will be based on the depot that still exists at Derby (Stevensville), Michigan on Michigan Central’s St Joseph Branch which ran between South Bend, Indiana and St Joseph, Michigan. The prototype depot is a combination depot with separate sections for passenger waiting room, operator’s office complete with bay window and baggage section. The depot is constructed of wood and features shiplap siding with a hip roof. There were many examples of this style of depot spread across the Michigan Central and Canada Southern Railways.
While there were many different sizes of this style of depot as well as door and window arrangements, they all shared the same design elements. However two common variations occurred on these depots. The first variation was the siding. Some depots were entirely sided with shiplap siding from foundation to the soffit; other depots had a piece of horizontal trim that encircled the depot at the top of the windows. Vertical tongue and groove siding was then installed between this trim and the roof’s soffits. The second variation was a ground levelor raised baggage section. The raised baggage sections allowed parcels to be slid directly from the raised floor to a cart and to the train with out even lifting. Depots with raised floors have a baggage room door with no windows, while low floored baggage rooms have a transom windows above the baggage door. It is hoped that the kit will include these options to allow the modeler to customize the kit allowing for four different versions of the kit to be built without kitbashing.
Other Michigan Central depots of the same style were located at Auburn, Bach, Baroda, Chester, Derby, Eckford, Glendora, Glenwood, Midland, Munger, Rives Junction, Thomas, Utica, Vanderbilt and Wahjamega Michigan as well as Charing Cross, Hagersville, Iona and St Davids Ontario, Canada.
These Michigan Central depots were located along the Buffalo to Chicago via Detroit Mainline as well as the Bay City, Caro, Grand Rapids, Mackinaw, Midland, Moscow, Niagara, Saginaw and St Joseph Branches.

A minimum of fifty (50) reservations is needed
to make either of these kits a reality.
We will only produce one of these two
as our next offering. Help us decide
which one to offer.
Will it be the West Branch, MI Depot??
or the
Derby Depot, Stevensville, MI Depot??

AMB HO-Scale NYC Caboose Kits
(Tongue & Groove – Lot 732) (Lot 732 Pacemaker)
The Lot 732 caboose was built on the steel fish belly frames of 1910 era 36’ boxcars in 1944. The 50 cabooses in the Lot were numbered 20100-20149. While they look like a standard 19000 series caboose they are longer with a distinctive steel C channel along the bottom of the body. In 1946, five cabooses were rebuilt with plywood sides, different brake equipment and were painted gray and crimson for Pacemaker service.
These NYCSHS exclusive HO-scale kits are laser cut and are a joy to build. They are less trucks but (Westerfields Models has the correct trucks). Offered here in the store at: http://www.nycshs.net/American-Model-Builders-Laser-Kits-HO-Scale_c_76.html . The kits come with the decals for the appropriate kit.
Non-members price is $64.95. NYCSHS Members Price $51.96 and that is 20% off MSRP for members. Shipping is extra and Ohio residents pay 8% Ohio sales tax.
