    Dear Sir,

I would like some information on the N. Y. C. & H. R. R. Co. four wheeled Boxcars. I have a picture of one No. 4673. I don’t know the date, but it would appear to be late in the 19th century. Four wheeled cars seem to me very unusual at such a late date. Were there any other four wheeled rollingstock in on the roster. I did search the forums, but couldn’t find any references on the subject. Any information that you can supply would be extremely appreciated.

    sincerely Yours,

    William C. Rice

    • We will see what we can find but I don’t remember any reference to them in our files.

    • The car was built earlier than predates 1906 lot series numbering plan.

A copy of the March 1899 Official Railway Equipment Register. It list NYC&HR 4000-10899 as various boxcars 8-foot wide, 5’ 11 1/4” tall and various lengths from 28’ to 33’. There are shown 3650 cars in this group.

The next ORER copy is from Feb 1901, same info but down to 3188 cars.

The March 1903 shows 1884 cars in the series.

The March 1905 shows 854 cars.

The next ORER is October 1926, by which time all NYC&HR lettered cars are no longer shown.

Would I be able to purchase Central Headlight Fourth Quarter 1987 Edition with an article by Bob Cosgrove about a train wreck in September of 1924?
